Dear Community,

The Mademoiselle Service and Social Club was established in 1960 at Booker T. Washington High School (BTW) to promote refined womanhood and to help female students become aware of the roles of women in today’s society. Since its inception, the organization has flourished on other high school campuses in the Houston area with hopes of uniting young ladies of color with a common purpose.

The Mademoiselles are leaders in their community through service projects, annual events, and step competitions. A few of the service projects include Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon, and “Adopt a Family” for Christmas. The organization, along with its male counterpart, The Gents, holds an Annual Winter Ball at the Houston Club. Alone, the Mademoiselles host an annual Mother-Daughter Banquet to show appreciation to the female role models in their lives. The BTW Mademoiselles won the Airtight, Inc. step championship in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004; and the North Shore Mademoiselles are Stage Breaker champions of 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Because of the qualities that many young ladies, now women, learned through the Mademoiselle organization, former Mademoiselles formed The MLLES (Mademoiselles) Alumnae, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.  The purpose of The MLLES Alumnae, Inc. is to host an annual conference and award an annual scholarship. Our 5th Annual Citywide Mademoiselle Conference is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2008. Many young ladies of today are facing adversity without the necessary confidence and skills to overcome the barriers. Therefore, we host workshops on health, life skills, self-esteem, and college preparation. Our primary goal is to establish a confidence-building environment and further a mentoring relationship with the attendees.

We invite the community to become a part of the success of our 5th Annual Citywide Mademoiselle Conference. Over two hundred of Houston’s young ladies of color participate in our conference. Please ask your organization/company to donate funds or any of the items listed on the following pages to support our efforts. Our donation packages are also listed below. If you have any questions or would like more details about the event, please contact one of the Co-Directors listed below. Thank you in advance your time and support.

Sincerely,
